Name of Business: Nagel Family Chiropractic and Wellness

How did you get started?: I began my health career working in an ICU as an RN. I realized that health care today is not health care. It is sick care. Later I came to understand that it was the fact that the medical system’s place was to keep people alive, while our place in chiropractic is to “give people life.” I know that can seem ‘out there’ but we see it every day and many of our practice members understand that see it in their everyday life. After my own “chiropractic miracle” (90% reduction of my allergies), I went back to chiropractic college, which is the same number of credit hours as an MD, we simply study more neurology, xray, diagnosis, and nutrition and less pharmacology and toxicology. After that I practiced out in Colorado for three years. After never really feeling “at home” I decided to make a change, which brought me back to North Dakota, where I’ve been enjoying getting to serve this community in a unique, progressive manner that is very effective for a wide range of problems.

Successes (best part): All the “Tiny Miracles” that my staff and I have had the opportunity to facilitate and be a part of in the last year, with both our adult and childhood practice members. Many people come to us only after all other options have been exhausted (even though we are one of the most effective, cost effective, and safe choices, chiropractic care for restoring and maintaining our health is somewhat unknown of still). Along with that comes the peace of mind knowing that what we do only has positive side effects and will help the person live life–more! Better balance, more energy, less brain fog, better sleep, and better behaved children are just a small sample of benefits we hear about daily!

Challenges: Often being the “last resort,” we often have to pick up the pieces of a sick care system, that often leaves a person worse off then when they started. The misconceptions of what chiropractic care is, can do, and the potential life benefits are always a challenge to overcome. Time is always a challenge.

Advice for other YPs: Always work on communication abilities—it will always serve you for the better. Don’t mess around with your health—find yourself a health and wellness doctor—because heaven knows we have more than enough sick care doctors! The dividends will pay greatly in your future!
