Role in the YP Network: Professional Development & Social Teams
What does the committee feel he/she contributes to YPN? (Statement by Team Co-leads)
Kelsey joined the YP network in early 2011 and quickly became a very active member – joining both the Social & Professional Development (PD) teams. Kelsey recently recruited and coordinated all the volunteers for the PD team’s Stepping Up program – an opportunity for YP members to speak to high school aged students about their career path. Kelsey is always willing to lend a hand with any event for either team she is involved, including set-up for Power Lunches, 30-in-30, the Christmas Party and Cinco! She is incredibly reliable and always welcoming to new members!
Why do you feel it is important to be part of the network?
The Challenge. The Young Professionals network is a wonderful way to challenge one’s capabilities. When I joined I had just graduated school and moved away from everything that was “comfortable and safe”. I had two choices: stay in my apartment and be hermit or venture out and see what impact I could make on the community that I had joined. The Young Professionals offered me that and more. Through them I have met amazing individuals and found my inner social butterfly. The Young Professional has also helped me rediscover the joys of volunteering and how to reach out and encourage others to do the same. I feel that the organization and the people involved have made a huge impact on not only myself but also my view of a young professionals stance within their community.
How do you spend your free time?
I have a movie obsession, I absolutely love making a bowl of popcorn and watching anything, even horror as long as no one minds if I peek through my fingers at the scary parts. I also enjoy getting together with people and catching up on all there life adventures, even if I just saw them the day before.
Are you involved in other organizations in the community?
Not at the moment, I was very involved in college and am learning to pace myself and not jump into more than one organization at a time. I believe if I’m going to be a part of something then when I’m there it deserves 110%.
