What does the committee feel he contributes to YPN? (Statement by Team Co-leads)
“Since joining the Network in 2014, Garrett has become a very active member of the Social Team. He attends monthly meetings and events, as well as helps provide input in the planning of events. He spearheaded the planning of the June 2015 trip to a Twins baseball game. We always appreciate his feedback and willingness to help out when needed.”
Why do you feel it is important to be part of the network? It is a good way to meet new people, make new friends, get out of the house and participate in fun events/activities, etc. Especially when you are new in town and don’t know anyone here.
What professional advice do you have for other young professionals? I wouldn’t call myself a professional. I’m still just a kid who has hit an age where it is expected of us to act a certain way between 8 am and 5 pm during the work week and the rest of the time all bets are off! Also, sometimes there are certain things that are just out of our control. Rather than stressing about it, arguing over it, or trying to change it, it is often a lot easier to just accept it and focus your efforts on how you are going to deal with it. A lot of people at work seem to stress over dumb stuff, or stuff that is out of their control.
How do you spend your free time? Spend money on dumb things I don’t need, watch Netflix, play video games, participate in city league sports, ride my motorcycle, hang out with friends, snowmobile and snowboard (a little more difficult now that I live in ND though).
What is your favorite quote? “The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese.” I find it funny, but I don’t necessarily live by it.
Fun Fact My social skills are pretty much limited to movie quotes and music lyrics (sometimes ad-libbed remixes)
