What does the committee feel he/she contributes to YPN? (Statement by Team Co-leads)
“Kayla regularly attends our monthly Ambassador Team Meetings and is very engaged in the YPN. She is always willing to assist the team in any way she can – including being the Ambassador of the Month, judging the Top 10 Places to Work and attending the New Member Breakfasts to help welcome new members to the network. Her positive attitude and willingness to help when needed adds great value to our team. We have truly enjoyed getting to know Kayla and know she will continue to do great things for the network and the community
Why do you feel it is important to be part of the network?
It’s important for me to be a part of the network because I enjoy meeting other business professionals and contributing to the community. The organization is a great way to network with employees from a variety of businesses and welcome new individuals to the community. The network does so many great things for the community and it’s important to me to give back.
Are you involved in other organizations in the community? If so, to what extent and why is this important to you?
I am involved in the Central Dakota Human Resources Association (CDHRA) and am a part of the new member committee. CDHRA is important for me because it’s critical for Bismarck-Mandan to have a local HR presence in the community. CDHRA brings in monthly speakers to present on Human Resource related issues and it’s a great learning opportunity. I also participate in Junior Achievement, which is important to me because educating today’s youth and encouraging them to become interested in business and community is important for the future of Bismarck-Mandan. Plus, I just love kids!
What professional advice do you have for other young professionals?
My advice for other young professionals is to get involved, whether that is with YP or other community groups. Getting involved allows young professional to grow both personally and professionally. The Bismarck-Mandan Young Professionals Network is truly a great way to become acclimated to the community if you have recently relocated and it’s also a way for individuals who have spent their lives here to meet professionals that they wouldn’t typically meet in their current routine. The network has allowed me to make so many friends that I most likely would never have met otherwise.
How do you spend your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I love to be outside, so running, biking, and walking are some favorites. I am a bookworm and love to read. I am always up for an adventure and enjoy traveling. I also enjoy spending time on the river in the summer and attending Vikings games in the fall (even if they aren’t that good).
What is your favorite quote?
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Reinhold Niebuhr
I love Wheel of Fortune, and if I am in a business, restaurant, or gym that has Wheel on a TV, I will shout out the answer to every puzzle that I solve before the contestants. I just can’t help myself!!
