In addition to being a YPN member, Rue stays busy by practicing yoga, reading, and learning to play the guitar. She is also an avid traveler, having explored over 21 countries in Europe, Africa, North and Central America, and Southeast Asia.
A couple of fun facts about Rue are that her parents are from Zimbabwe, and she has competed in two Canadian National Team Handball tournaments.
Regarding the importance of being involved in YPN, Rue shared, “Community involvement is the first step to fostering change and promoting growth in a community. I also believe that young people are often the best agents of change in a community.” She noted the unique opportunity Bismarck provides to access influential people and foster relationships with mentors.
Her advice to other young professionals is to get out and network. “You never know what kinds of opportunities, ideas, partnerships or friendships may arise when you meet new people and enter new environments.”
Additionally, she suggests developing a professional online presence. “Google yourself and monitor what is associated with your name. One of the simplest ways is by creating a professional profile on LinkedIn.”
