YP Power Lunch Discusses Generational Differences & Secrets to Making Diversity Work
Members of the Young Professionals Network enjoyed a motivating and enlightening presentation on July 31 regarding diversity, generational differences and how to make it work.
Kostas Voutsas, assistant professor of business at Dickinson State University, as well as corporate trainer, motivational speaker and author, educated and entertained attendees regarding successful methods to break down cultural and generational barriers. Stories from his past experiences, as well as researched techniques, provided entertaining stories and solid takeaways. Some of the key points from the presentation include:
Pay more attention to nonverbal signals
Be aware that people give false nonverbal cues
Avoid giving conflicting signals
Be aware of your posture and gestures
Respect the audience’s comfort zone
Develop effective policies
Educate and train
Get to know each other to make connections through teamwork, lunches and picnics
Partner different generations/ethnicities to work together
Structure project groups, panels and activities so that leadership roles are balanced
