YP Network Now Accepting Applications for Nonprofit Partner

Posted by Young Professionals on Tuesday, June 17th, 2014 in Community Involvement, Uncategorized | Comments (0)

The Bismarck-Mandan Young Professionals Network (YPN) is now accepting applications for an area nonprofit organization to partner with for the next year as part of the Network’s ongoing strategic plan.

YPN_logoOnly network members may submit applications, but area nonprofits are encouraged to seek out a member to apply on their behalf. Click here for an application. Applications are due July 15 and will be reviewed by a committee of YPN members.

The partnership – running from August 2014 to August 2015 – will give the selected nonprofit an opportunity to connect with young professionals from around Bismarck-Mandan, while providing network members with service opportunities throughout the year. All YPN fundraising efforts for that year will go towards the chosen nonprofit organization.

“Our members are looking to give back to our community, and by focusing our efforts on one main nonprofit, we are able to become more invested in the cause,” said Heather Welle, YPN president.

The YPN partnered with the Central Dakota Humane Society in 2013-2014, supporting the animal shelter’s events and overall mission to provide for, house, rehabilitate and relocate lost, stray or homeless animals. Network members donated money and gave their time and talents throughout the year to assist at the shelter north of Mandan.

“We were so pleased that YPN chose CDHS as their nonprofit partner for this past year. They helped at nearly all of our fundraisers and made a huge impact on what CDHS was able to accomplish during the year. They are an amazing group of people who believe in the idea of giving back to their community. Not only do they impact the community through their jobs, but also through the time and talent they donate,” said Cameo Skager, CDHS Board President.

The Role of YPN Vice President

By Heather Welle, Vice President

YP Network_LogoAre you looking for an opportunity to enhance your leadership skills?  I would like to invite you to run for Vice President of the Bismarck-Mandan Young Professionals Network.  This Executive Team position is open to all paid members. You are not required to have served as a team co-lead in order to run. It does, however, have a three-year commitment which includes one year as vice president, one year a president, and one year as chairperson.

How it works:

As the vice president you will have a supportive role to the president.  You will be expected to attend monthly board meetings in which the co-leads of each team and the Executive Team review past and future events, discuss opportunities to enhance the network and vote on important network-related issues.  As part of the Executive Team you will meet quarterly with the president and chairperson.  You will be highly encouraged to attend all teams meetings on a rotational basis and attend as many events as you can. During this time you will learn from the current president and prepare to transition into his or her role.

The Bismarck-Mandan Young Professionals Network celebrated its eighth anniversary and welcomed a new set of leaders for the group at its annual Cinco de Mayo celebration Thursday, May 2.

YP membership elected Heather Welle, a Bemidji, Minn., native who has lived in Bismarck for 10 years, as the YP Network’s next vice president.

“I’m honored the group chose me for this position,” said Welle, a University of North Dakota graduate who works for Solid Rock Financial. “I’m excited to get to work and to help the YP Network grow and increase its presence in Bismarck-Mandan.”

Welle will serve one year as vice president before assuming the role of president. Joe Fink, a mortgage consultant at Wells Fargo, took over as president at the event, while Angil Wanner of SIA Marketing/Schmidt Insurance moved from president to chairwoman of the network.
