What You Need to Know About Voting in North Dakota

With the upcoming June election, it’s time to get informed about what’s on the ballot and the new voting requirements.

What do I need to vote?

Voter ID Newspaper ColorIn order to vote in your precinct, you need to bring a form of ID that includes your name, residential address and date of birth. The forms of identification accepted at your polling place are:

  • Driver’s license
  • Non-driver’s identification card
  • Student identification certificate
  • Tribal government issued identification card

The main update to the voting requirements is that you can no longer use a utility bill to prove residency if the address on your license is not current. If your current address is permanent, you can update your address for free on the NDDOT website. If you are a student with a temporary address (e.g. you live in the dorms and go home on breaks), your college or university can provide you with a student identification certificate verifying your residency in that precinct.

Who’s on the ballot?

The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce recently hosted forums with local Bismarck candidates. Watch the forums online here: Bismarck Park Board, Bismarck School Board, and Bismarck City Commission.

The Chamber also conducted interviews with all the candidates who will be listed on the June 10 ballot. Check out the special 2014 Candidate Profile issue of Chamber Connection to find out what you need to know about the candidates in Bismarck and Mandan.

Become an informed voter and make your voice heard June 10, 2014.
